Method

Twitch spins out of Justin.tv in San Francisco and launches on 6 June 2011. The Partner Program follows in July 2011, sharing ad and subscription revenue with large streamers, and the Affiliate Program in April 2017 opens subscriptions and Bits to small channels. Amazon buys Twitch on 25 August 2014 for 970 million dollars in cash. Ninja builds the first mainstream streaming career here before leaving for Mixer in 2019 and returning in 2020. Twitch introduces Partner Plus with a 70/30 split in June 2023 and tiered splits in January 2024, lays off about 400 staff in March 2023 and about 500 in January 2024, and CEO Dan Clancy says the business has never been profitable. Kick's 95/5 split pulls xQc and others away from 2023. In 2025 to 2026 Twitch remains the largest live platform for gaming and the launch pad for Kai Cenat and AMP.
