Warner Bros. Discovery forms in April 2022 when Discovery merges with AT&T's WarnerMedia, inheriting the Otter Media digital portfolio that AT&T assembled between 2014 and 2018. Its predecessor Warner Bros. had invested 18 million dollars in Machinima in 2014 and 24 million dollars in 2015, bought it outright in November 2016, then closed it on February 1, 2019 with 81 layoffs and its YouTube library set to private. Warner Bros. Discovery announces the closure of Rooster Teeth on March 6, 2024 and shuts it on May 15, 2024, with roughly 150 employees in Austin losing their jobs. RWBY goes to Viz Media in July 2024, The Roost podcast network to Night in April 2024, and the Rooster Teeth brand to Burnie Burns's Box Canyon Productions in February 2025.
