AT&T and The Chernin Group form Otter Media in April 2014 as a 50:50 joint venture with 500 million dollars of committed capital to buy and build online video companies. Otter takes control of Fullscreen in the autumn of 2014, and with it Rooster Teeth, and builds Crunchyroll through Ellation. In August 2018, two months after closing its Time Warner purchase, AT&T buys out Chernin's stake for a reported figure of about 1 billion dollars and folds Otter into WarnerMedia on May 31, 2019. Fullscreen's network business ceases on October 31, 2021 and the rest passes to Warner Bros. Discovery in April 2022. AT&T ends the period with none of the creator assets it paid for.
