Meta announces in July 2021 that it will pay creators more than 1 billion dollars in bonuses through the end of 2022 across Facebook and Instagram, including Reels Play bonuses of up to 35,000 dollars a month tied to Reels views. The bonuses are invitation only and opaque, and Meta winds Reels Play down in March 2023. Invitation only bonuses on Instagram return in 2024 and 2025, and Facebook combines its programs into Content Monetization in October 2024. The pledge is the model Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube Shorts answer with their own funds. The end date for the current Instagram bonus rounds is unconfirmed.

Open questions: Meta's July 14, 2021 announcement confirms the 1 billion dollar pledge through the end of 2022 and the Reels bonus, but the 35,000 dollar monthly cap, the March 2023 wind down of Reels Play, the 2024 and 2025 invitation only rounds and the October 2024 Content Monetization consolidation rest on the encyclopedia alone in this pass.
