Hearst buys 25 percent of AwesomenessTV from DreamWorks Animation in December 2014 for 81.25 million dollars, valuing it at 325 million dollars, and in April 2016 forms a joint venture with Verizon that buys Complex Networks. It also invests in Beautycon during the same period. Both AwesomenessTV and Complex are sold on within five years at lower valuations. Hearst keeps the practice of taking minority stakes in youth media rather than operating it.
