Method

The City of Arlington converts its convention center into a 100,000 square foot, 2,500 seat esports venue for 10 million dollars, opening on November 26, 2018 with Esports Venues LLC, owned by Texas Rangers co owner Neil Leibman, as operator with NGAGE Esports. It hosts the FACEIT Counter-Strike finals in 2018, the Esports Awards in 2019 and 2021, Dallas Fuel homestands, Call of Duty League majors and the PGL Dota 2 Major in 2022. The rung that breaks is the calendar: the venue closes in February 2020, lays off all but two employees in December 2020, reopens in July 2021, and Envy buys the operating contract on January 13, 2022, after which D Magazine counts six to eight tournaments a year. From May 2024 All Elite Wrestling fills the dates, returning for a four show Collision residency in January 2026, so a city funded esports arena now runs partly as a wrestling television studio.
