Project Music launches in January 2015 as the Nashville Entrepreneur Center's music technology accelerator with the Country Music Association as title sponsor, conceived by former Sony chairman Joe Galante and the EC's Robbie Goldsmith, and backed by founding investors including Creative Artists Agency, Universal Music Group, Ryman Hospitality Properties, Vector Management, Red Light Management, Spalding Entertainment, DevDigital and Galante Entertainment. The first 14 week cohort picks 8 companies from 92 applications, each receiving 30,000 dollars for 10 percent equity, with a pitch day at the CMA Theater on April 23, 2015, and portfolio companies raise more than 1.1 million dollars. In November 2017 it becomes a 12 month portfolio program and by March 2019 holds 16 companies including five in Nashville. Dart Music comes out of its first cohort.
