MrBeast Burger opens in December 2020 as a delivery only brand run by Virtual Dining Concepts out of existing restaurant kitchens under a September 2020 licensing agreement, sells over a million burgers in three months and reaches about 1,700 locations by the end of 2022, with a first physical store at American Dream mall in New Jersey on September 4, 2022. Donaldson sues in the Southern District of New York in July 2023 saying the food was inedible and that he had not received a dime, and VDC countersues for 100 million dollars. He announces in 2024 that the brand will close. The rung that broke was quality control: the creator lent a name to kitchens he did not operate, and the licensing model let VDC collect revenue while his reputation absorbed the complaints. The final settlement terms are not public and the litigation status is unconfirmed as of 2026.
