Method

CollegeHumor launches Dropout in September 2018 as a subscription service for its sketches, Game Changer and the live tabletop show Dimension 20. After IAC hands the company to Sam Reich in January 2020 with seven employees, Dropout replaces advertising with subscriptions at 5.99 dollars a month, doubles subscribers in 2023 to the mid or high six figures, turns profitable that year and draws about 85 percent of revenue from subscribers with 27 full time staff and project based talent. The company adopts the Dropout name in September 2023 and continues from Los Angeles as the standing example of a creator media company that survived by leaving the ad market.
