Method
Leo and John Resig form Resignation Media in August 2007 and launch thechive.com in November 2008, then move the company from Los Angeles into a renovated downtown Austin office in summer 2013. The business monetizes its audience through The Chivery merchandise store, with a dollar per shirt routed to Chive Charities, which has distributed more than $1.8 million by 2019, and through Chive TV, a bar and restaurant channel that the company incubates and spins out as Atmosphere in 2019. In January 2024 it announces a new ad sales team. It is Austin's earliest example of an audience business converting into goods and a venture backed platform.
