Ankur Nagpal launches Teachable in New York in 2013 as Fedora and raises 12.5 million dollars from Accomplice, Naval Ravikant and Learn Capital. By March 2020 course creators have earned half a billion dollars on the platform, half of it in the prior year. Brazil's Hotmart acquires Teachable on 16 March 2020 for a reported price of about 250 million dollars and keeps the New York and Durham offices. Nagpal later founds the retirement platform Carry, sold in April 2026. Teachable remains a Hotmart brand in 2026 competing with Kajabi and Skillshare for creator courses.
