Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand and Scott Lake build Shopify in Ottawa in 2006 from their snowboard shop software and list on the NYSE and TSX in May 2015. Shopify is the storefront under most creator owned brands on this map, from Feastables to MrBeast merch, and its Collabs product from 2022 lets merchants pay creators affiliate commissions. It serves more than 5 million merchants, processes 292 billion dollars of merchandise in 2024 with 57 percent from the US, and reports 11.56 billion dollars of 2025 revenue. In January 2026 it launches the Universal Commerce Protocol for AI agents.
Open questions: Shopify's February 11, 2026 results release and 8-K confirm about 11.6 billion dollars of 2025 revenue and investment in the Universal Commerce Protocol, but the 292 billion dollar 2024 GMV, the 57 percent US share, the 5 million merchant count and the January 2026 protocol launch date were not confirmed in a retrieved page.
