Method
Dave Wiskus's Standard Broadcast launches Nebula on May 23, 2019 with a group of educational YouTubers as an alternative to the MCN, paying member creators a share of subscription revenue and giving them equity rather than taking a cut of their YouTube ads. CuriosityStream buys a minority stake in September 2021 at a valuation above 50 million dollars and bundles the two services. Nebula reports 680,000 subscribers in December 2023 across 175 creators and adds Nebula First early releases, Nebula News and a film unit; it is run from New York and Denver.
