Google launches AdSense in June 2003 after buying Applied Semantics, paying content partners 68 percent of ad revenue. Every YouTube Partner Program payment since 2007 is settled through an AdSense account, which makes AdSense the oldest payout rail in the creator economy. By 2005 it is about 15 percent of Google's revenue and by 2021 more than 38 million sites use it. AdSense moves display publishers to per impression payment in 2024. It is headquartered with Google in Mountain View.
