Casey Neistat and Matt Hackett found Beme in New York in 2014 as an unedited video sharing app and raise about 6 million dollars by May 2016. CNN buys Beme in November 2016 for a reported 25 million dollars despite zero revenue, closes the app on 31 January 2017 and keeps the team to build a youth news brand from CNN's Atlanta center. Beme News launches on YouTube in 2017. On 25 January 2018 Neistat and Hackett leave and CNN folds Beme into CNN Digital Studios, with the channel ending in August 2019. The rung that breaks is product: a creator's audience does not transfer to a corporate news product.
