Evan Asano founds Mediakix in Los Angeles in 2011, running paid creator campaigns for brands and publishing research on the industry, and by 2020 it has produced more than 20,000 sponsored placements across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Twitch. Its 2017 experiment, in which two fake Instagram accounts with purchased followers receive real sponsorship offers, becomes the standard citation for follower fraud in creator marketing. Stadiumred Group announces on March 25, 2020 that it has acquired Mediakix as its fifth deal in two years and takes over back office and financial decisions. Within months the founder, all executives and most staff leave, creators report unpaid fees of 2,000 to 6,500 dollars each, and Stadiumred chief executive Claude Zdanow says Mediakix will run no campaigns until the creators are paid. The rung that broke is the acquirer's cash.

Open questions: BuzzFeed News and Business Insider report the 2020 payment dispute and suspension of campaigns, but the exact suspension date and whether Mediakix has since dissolved or paid the creators could not be confirmed.
