Logitech, headquartered in Lausanne with its US base in San Jose, buys Streamlabs on September 26, 2019 for 89 million dollars in cash plus up to 29 million dollars in earnouts. Streamlabs began in 2014 as TwitchAlerts, a fork of OBS with on screen tipping alerts, and became the default streaming console for Twitch creators. Under Logitech it adds Crossclip, Melon and Streamlabs Charity, and in November 2021 faces a creator boycott over copied marketing and misuse of the OBS name, which it settles by renaming products. The deal ties a hardware company to the software layer where streamers collect tips.
