Infowars is Alex Jones's Austin broadcast operation, run through Free Speech Systems from a South Austin studio and financed largely by the Infowars Store's supplements sold to its audience, the same audience to store path as any creator commerce business. Texas and Connecticut juries find Jones defamed the Sandy Hook families, with judgments of about $1.5 billion in total. Jones files for bankruptcy in December 2022, liquidation begins in 2024, and The Onion wins the November 2024 auction for the studio, intellectual property and website. After a federal judge declines to reopen the auction in February 2025, Infowars goes offline in May 2026 and Jones launches a substitute platform. The Onion relaunches the site on July 2, 2026 with Tim Heidecker hosting while the Third Court of Appeals remands the domain transfer to Travis County. The rung that breaks is legal liability consuming the store's cash flow.
